banksy in ny

exit through the gift shop, the film from banksy, recently opened in many of the major markets here in the us.  in support of the film, the artist has been traveling across the country putting up some new pieces.  new york was the final stop on the tour and also the one city who’s inhabitants destroyed the pieces almost immediately.

pho and a grilled shrimp dish from the new restaurant Obao.  usually i try and avoid eating food at restaurant shoots, however this time around there was time to kill as the staff got the back of the restaurant ready to shoot (and it was dinner time) so I had a few bites.  definitely recommended if you find yourself on 53rd street between 2nd and 3rd avenues.

saw that elbow-toe had recently put up a piece in one of my favorite (and local) abandoned lots.  all of the shots i had seen had been taken during the day – which seemed like the wrong lighting.  luckily enough, i had a couple of brooklyn restaurants to shoot and was thus able to come by just as the sun was setting.  here’s the piece + a few more.

high line

highline2

the high line was an abandoned railroad spur running from 34th street through chelsea, the meat packing district and finally terminating in the west village.  after numerous attempts to tear it down, it was land marked and eventually turned into an elevated park.  the first section runs from gansevoort street to 20th street and opened in june.  the northern section is set to open next year.
