took a trip over to queens to see the hold steady play on a roof deck. it was a quick show but certainly a lot less crowded than the last time i saw them with 4k other fans in prospect park….

recently picked up the canon 85mm f/1.8 – i had borrowed one from jake a few months back and fallen in love – sharp, fast, and a good length for portraits and street work.
got the opportunity to hang with alex meixner and the girls of wasabassco last week at the bell house.
took a trip out to sunset park a few weekends back to check out an old warehouse they they were demolishing. also took the opportunity to check out a couple of rooftops and a section of the coast that’s slated to become a park as part of the shore front greenway initiative.
++bonus++
some nice looking new studio spaces in industry city – wonder how much they rent for?
had to drop off a disc in the city today, thankfully the brutal rain of the morning/afternoon ended just as i was leaving. these were taken mostly within a few blocks of houston street nr the second avenue train station.
++bonus++ the park down the street just as the sun peeks through the clouds for a moment.
saw that elbow-toe had recently put up a piece in one of my favorite (and local) abandoned lots. all of the shots i had seen had been taken during the day – which seemed like the wrong lighting. luckily enough, i had a couple of brooklyn restaurants to shoot and was thus able to come by just as the sun was setting. here’s the piece + a few more.
the high line was an abandoned railroad spur running from 34th street through chelsea, the meat packing district and finally terminating in the west village. after numerous attempts to tear it down, it was land marked and eventually turned into an elevated park. the first section runs from gansevoort street to 20th street and opened in june. the northern section is set to open next year.
++bonus++ street art in the meat packing district
++double bonus++ the high line when it was still abandoned a few years back
took a trip down to red hook this afternoon to check out the 3rd annual red hook film festival. afterward we walked around by the waterfront for a bit before heading over to sunny’s bar for the festival party featuring a six foot long sandwich from defonte’s sandwich shop. sorry to see the sun setting around 6:30 these days but manged to grab a couple of minutes of nice light there towards the end of the day.
++bonus++ morning coffee at southside…
++double bonus++ a crazy golden spider at erie basin.
