rainy wednesday

had to drop off a disc in the city today, thankfully the brutal rain of the morning/afternoon ended just as i was leaving.  these were taken mostly within a few blocks of  houston street nr the second avenue train station.

wild, porky & engaged

wtwta2

been busy.  had a pre where the wild things are dinner party for 12.  served a pork shoulder/butt chili made with roasted tomatillos – a total steal at 59 cents a pound – total cost was $2 per person!  however,  the most important thing that happened was robin and i got engaged on thursday night.  tomorrow i shoot a dog masquerade contest in times square.  pictures of funnily dressed dogs coming soon.

saw that elbow-toe had recently put up a piece in one of my favorite (and local) abandoned lots.  all of the shots i had seen had been taken during the day – which seemed like the wrong lighting.  luckily enough, i had a couple of brooklyn restaurants to shoot and was thus able to come by just as the sun was setting.  here’s the piece + a few more.

high line

highline2

the high line was an abandoned railroad spur running from 34th street through chelsea, the meat packing district and finally terminating in the west village.  after numerous attempts to tear it down, it was land marked and eventually turned into an elevated park.  the first section runs from gansevoort street to 20th street and opened in june.  the northern section is set to open next year.

the smith & 9th street elevated subway station is falling into total disrepair – it was supposed to close for renovations but it seems as if that has been pushed back another year as budget deficits increase.   here’s a few more shots of the crumbly, stalagmite infested station.  also – i wish i had seen it when it was painted red or blue!

jazz age 5

busy weekend – red hook film festival on saturday and then dim sum, jazz age party, lobster boil on sunday.  for whatever reason photographic evidence only exists for the jazz age party – so you’ll have to take me on my word when i say that the 5 of us had 17 dishes at east harbor palace for a grand total of $50.

here’s a few more from the jazz age party on governor’s island – for more be sure to check out the metromix website.
